Straumann BLX Implants

The Straumann BLX system can be confusing because some parts are shared. We have broken down the information for you here.

The RB/WB implant platform diameters are 3.5mm, 3.75mm, 4.0mm and 4.5mm.
The WB implant platform diameters are 5.0mm, 5.5mm, 6.5mm

The purple impression coping for the RB/WB will also fit the WB implants and the brown impression coping for the WB implants will fit the RB/WB implants. It is important to specify on the Rx which implant is in the mouth; the RB/WB or the WB.

The same goes for the healing abutments; the RB/WB purple healing abutment will fit the WB implant and the brown WB healing abutment will fit the RB/WB implant. It is important to use the healing abutment which belongs to the implant in the mouth. The RB/WB for the RB/WB implant or the WB for the WB implant.

There is only one scanbody for the RB/WB and WB implants. The reference number for the scanbody is 065.0103. It is very important that when you provide the scanbody part number to us, you also provide the implant information; RB/WB or WB.

Why is the above important? Because the connection areas of the abutments are different, the abutments are potentially incompatible and you could have troubles at delivery.

The healing abutments of the RB/WB and WB are different emergences.

The purple RB/WB is designed to allow tissue to grow over the implant platform. If the implant is subcrestal, the healing abutment will allow bone to grow over the implant platform.

When you attempt to seat a WB abutment in a WB implant when a RB/WB healing abutment has been used, the WB abutment is going to encounter bone or tissue, or both, and it will not seat.

WB Abutment won’t fit when the RB/WB healing abutment was used

If a RB/WB abutment is made for a WB implant, then the platform of the implant will not be mostly covered, as it is designed to be. You can see in this diagram that the WB abutment covers the platform and the RB does not cover the platform.

So, as you can see above, it is extremely important to make sure the healing abutment used matches the implant and that the proper information is provided to our laboratory. With the proper information and parts, we will provide you a case that seats successfully the first time.
